This year, at the Girls Inc. of the Valley’s annual Business Leaders Reception we celebrated International Day of the Girl, adopted by the United Nations to recognize girls’ rights and the unique challenges girls face around the world.
Here are some of the words that described so beautifully the UN’s decision to launch this global effort nearly 10 years ago.
“That the participation of girls in decisions that affect their lives is key to breaking the cycle of discrimination and poverty and, to empower young women to become inspired, accomplished women of tomorrow.”
This day, and every day, magnifies the importance of our work with girls to make those words real -by inspiring girls to be strong, smart, and bold.
Along with this important global initiative, we were excited to announce to the assembled business leaders the purchase of our new, soon to be renovated, headquarters at 480 Hampden Street, Holyoke. The launch of the fundraising campaign, Her Future, Our Future, will transform the 16,000 sq. ft red brick building into an energetic, bright, creative space. Girls, staff, families, and the community will have the opportunity to come together for Girls Inc.’s life-changing programs.
As a business community, we really can make a difference in the lives of girls and young women.
With appreciation,
Suzanne Parker
