Eureka! University – 2020 Summer Program

By July 1, 2020July 8th, 2020No Comments

Girls Inc. of the Valley announced their summer line up for one of the organization’s signature programs: Eureka!. An exciting schedule has been created for girls with the help of various community partners, offering educational and interesting online workshops for the summer of 2020.

Eureka! is a five-year journey for teenage girls, preparing them to participate and excel in cutting-edge, dynamic STEM careers. The need for qualified science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) professionals in our workforce continues to grow and women – particularly women of color – continue to be underrepresented in these fields. Employers across the country have a growing number of job openings in these fields and today’s Eureka! scholars will fill those positions in the future.

Girls Inc. of the Valley has had to pivot due to the pandemic, offering virtual sessions this summer, with support from leading business owners and leaders from the Western Massachusetts community. See attached schedule for a full lineup of how the program will run this year. These community partners have volunteered their time to host fun, creative, and interactive workshops with the girls from July 14th-August 7th:

“Due to COVID-19, we have had to shift the way we deliver the Eureka! program this summer”, said Suzanne Parker, Executive Director of Girls Inc. of the Valley. “We are excited to hold Eureka! University online; where girls can earn credits for attending various workshops. Based on the number of credits earned, girls will qualify for either a doctorate or master’s degree; both of which offer different incentives. The community support to provide fun, creative, and interactive workshops for Eureka! University has been incredible. We are so grateful to have such strong community partners and volunteers to support girls this summer.”
