UPDATED March 24, 2020

Spirit of Girls Breakfast – Postponed:
At Girls Inc. of the Valley, we are committed to doing our part to keep our friends and family safe. The Spirit of Girls Breakfast scheduled for May 5 has been postponed, and we are looking towards Fall 2020 for a new date. This decision was not made lightly, as the Spirit of Girls Breakfast is our largest fundraising event of the year, and also an opportunity for the girls to showcase what they have learned. If you are an individual or business that has sponsored this year’s event, thank you. Your sponsorship is appreciated and will be honored at the rescheduled event. Please keep an eye on your inbox for more updates.

Supporters:
We are so grateful for the constant and unwavering support of our friends and community members. It is because of you that Girls Inc. of the Valley has been able to provide high-quality programs and opportunities to girls in Holyoke, Springfield, Chicopee, and beyond! We know the girls will be excited to return to our centers and to in-school programs — and we all look forward to that day as well. We appreciate your support and hope that we can rely on it in as we continue to deliver transformative programming to girls in the Valley.

In accordance with Gov. Baker’s announcement, Girls Inc. of the Valley will be closed through April 6, 2020. This includes programming at the Mariposa Center, Teen Center, and off-site programs. The return date of April 7, 2020, will be reassessed throughout the closure period based on the evolving COVID-19 situation across the state.

As we hope you know, Girls Inc. cares tremendously about the health and safety of girls in our programs, so we write today with that on the forefront of our minds.

Today Superintendents of Schools across the Valley have made the difficult decision to close schools. Girls Inc. of the Valley (including the Mariposa Center and the Teen Center) will also be closing for a minimum of two weeks with a tentative return date of Monday, March 30th. That date will be reassessed throughout the two-week closure period based on the evolving COVID-19 situation across the state.

Food insecurity for girls and their families is of great concern to us. We would like to direct families to the FoodSource Hotline at 800-645-8333. Anyone can use this hotline and it will have the most up to date information of where to get free meals, if needed.

We are sharing this short message now, but we know there may be a number of questions that will arise from this decision. We encourage you to follow us on social media where we will post communications as things unfold. We do not have everything figured out yet but we are exploring creative ways to connect with girls and their families. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us with any questions.
