How cool, that our girls gained admission to a class about gaining admission. It’s called Camp College, a sort of boot camp to educate high schoolers about the overwhelming college application process. Run by admissions officers at UMass for three days in July, Camp College gave 30 of our Eureka! girls an invaluable crash course about everything in the process.
Filling out the common app? Check. Learning how to navigate the FAFSA financial aid forms? Check again. This would be excellent for anyone who’s college bound, but it was truly the chance of a lifetime for first-generation college students to get a leg up. The most fun part? The girls got to stay in the dorms and practice being college kids—to make the dream feel that much more real.
